What Rahu Kaal is
Rahu Kaal is not an eclipse or an astronomical event. The tradition divides the daylight between sunrise and sunset into eight equal parts and gives one of them to Rahu, chosen by the weekday. Because sunrise moves with latitude and the date, the window differs by city and by day.
It is traditionally treated as an inauspicious window for beginning new work. This page calculates the window; it does not prescribe anything.
What has been checked
Delhi's windows reproduced a published table eight times out of eight, covering all seven weekdays, to the minute. The eleven fixed cities are computed from the same sunrise and sunset code but have not been compared against a published table; the sun times behind them were swept across every city and every month. Geocoded places use the same calculation with the place's own timezone, and are not checked against anything.
